Obituary for Ra T. Kligge

Ra T. Kligge, 43, of Shippensburg, passed away Friday, May 11, 2018 at Johns Hopkins Medical Center. He was born Tuesday, December 31, 1974 in Newburg, the son of Thomas D. and J. Brandii F. (Girardin) Kligge of Newburg.

Ra graduated from Chambersburg High School in 1993. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Communications and Art from Shippensburg University. Ra owned and operated Modern Artisan, a graphic design and consulting business in Shippensburg. He was a member of Rotary Club of Shippensburg, where he served as president from 2013-2015. He served on the Board of Directors and was committee chair for Rotary International District 7390 (Group A), and as Assistant Governor, 2016-2019. He was a member of Shippensburg Area Chamber of Commerce; Shippensburg Historical Society, where he served as a director; Shippensburg Twp. Planning Commission and Shippensburg Revitalization Group where he served as secretary. He also served on the Cumberland County Planning Commission as a commissioner.

Ra had an enduring faith in people, building his life around volunteer and humanitarian service work and living by the Rotary Motto, "Service above self." In addition to leadership roles, Ra devoted his time to highway clean-up, Peace Garden maintenance, and conceiving and executing the first phase of the Shippensburg Station Trailhead Facility Project. He acquired and constructed public park benches, along with many other community revitalization efforts. Additionally, he gave countless professional hours of pro bono creative and technical support to nonprofits, businesses and individuals.

Ra was a loving mentor and father figure to his girlfriend's two young children, and Ra is deeply loved as a partner, son, brother, nephew, cousin and friend.

He is survived by his parents, two brothers, Zaun D. Kligge and wife Alison Edge of Davidsonville, MD, Noe T. Kligge and girlfriend Emily Gilmore of Dillsburg, partner Elizabeth L. Porter of Shippensburg and her children, Ingrid and Ira, sisters, Kim Galuzzo of Londonderry, NH, Tamara Winters of Melrose, MA, niece Aisley Kligge and nephew Soren Kligge of Davidsonville, and his devoted aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Professional services are entrusted to Dugan Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. A memorial gathering will be held Saturday, May 19 from 12 noon until 2:30 PM at Dugan Funeral Home and Crematory, 51 Asper Drive, Shippensburg.
