Alan L. Bennett, age 75 of Shippensburg, passed away August 8, 2024 at home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born August 22, 1948 in Chaneysville, PA to the late Norman D. and Renee (Heller) Bennett.
Alan retired as dispatcher for Central Penn Transportation. He also spent many years working for the B&O railroad then followed by CSX transportation. He was a U.S. Navy veteran. He learned to play guitar from his father and became a skilled musician, playing with several bands throughout his life. Alan was a fantastic guitar player but also enjoyed playing the banjo and mandolin. He was also an avid chess player. In his later years, he became a member of Grand Point Church, Chambersburg.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Cheri L. (Forrest) Bennett of Shippensburg; daughters, Bonnie M. Bennett of New Brighton, Andrea M. Hernandez and husband, Eladio of Frederick, MD, Sara E. Willis and husband, Tom of Shippensburg and Amanda L. Boyd and husband, Scott of Hummelstown; grandchildren, Daniel and Rena Fox, Alayna, Adriana and Judah Hernandez, Jakwonzhia, Emily, Donny, Alea, Ella, Giselle, Justus and Khristian Willis, Nathaniel and Elijah McClain and Rachel Boyd; sister, Sharon G. Thomas and husband, Curtis of Beaver Falls; sister-in-law, Cari Bennett of Harlingen, TX and cousin, Marilyn Feldman of San Jose, CA. Alan was preceded in death by his brother, Robert J. Bennett.
