Betty was a 1967 graduate of Big Spring High School and a 1970 graduate of Shippensburg State College. She was a sixth-grade language arts teacher in the Big Spring School District for many years, retiring in 2005. Betty and Dave loved gospel music and enjoyed their annual trip to Sugar Creek, Ohio for a weekend concert.

She was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Walnut Bottom, where she served as a Church Council member, Vacation Bible School Coordinator, and Trinity Day Care Board of Directors representative. For many years she was the chairwoman of Trinity’s Craft Show Committee, retiring from that position in 2025. Through the years Betty also served on South Newton Township Volunteer Fire Company Ladies’ Auxiliary, Golden Agers, South Newton Township Planning and Auditing Committees, and Cumberland County Judge of Elections. Additionally, she served as the secretary for many family reunions over the years.
