Byrl Elizabeth Gates, age 92, of Gettysburg, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 13, 2024 at Gettysburg Center in Gettysburg. She was born on June 24, 1932 in Bendersville, as the daughter of the late Leroy G. and Arlene E. (Shepard) Gochenauer.
Byrl attended Biglerville High School. She worked as a laborer for Pfaltzgraff for many years and also at Kennie’s Market in the deli. She was a member of Bendersville United Methodist Church. In her spare time, Byrl enjoyed collecting knick-knacks and jewelry and shopping.
Byrl is survived by her four sisters, Gloria A. Patterson of Bendersville, June M. Ayers of Gettysburg, Arliss M. Black of Biglerville, D. Mardell Anderson of Aspers and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Byrl was preceded in death by her husband, who passed in February of 2011, Leonard Gates; her former husband who passed in October 1990, Harold Kime; two sisters, Boneta W. Fair and Audrey Showers; brother-in-law, E.C. Anderson and five brothers, Robert Gochenauer, Aldaus Gochenauer, George Gochenauer, Maynard Gochenauer and Richard Gochenauer.
Professional services are entrusted to Dugan Funeral Home, Inc., 111 South Main St., Bendersville. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, October 21, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Dugan Funeral Home, Inc., Bendersville with Reverend Susan Scott officiating. Procession will follow the services to Wenksville Cemetery in Biglerville.
