C. Duane Bretzman, age 79, of Bendersville died Sunday, August 1, 2010 at his home. He was born Monday, December 8, 1930 in Menallen Twp. the son of the late Charles W. and Hazel (Deitrick) Bretzman. Duane attended Biglerville High School. Before his retirement in 1998, he had been employed by P.H. Gladfelter in Spring Grove for over 30 years. He had previously worked for Allis-Chalmers in York and C.H. Musselman Co. at Edgewood. He was a life member and past chief of the Bendersville Fire Company, a PA State Forest Fire Warden for 34 years, past president and member of the Adams Co. Volunteer Firemens Assoc., social member of Ira E. Lady American Legion Post 262 in Biglerville, the Quarter Century Club of P.H. Gladfelter. He was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Bendersville and served as Cub Scout Leader for Aspers Pack 75. Duane was an avid hunter and greatly enjoyed the outdoors. He was predeceased by his first wife, Carole E. (Heiner) Bretzman who died in 1964.He is survived by his wife Barbara A. (Funt) Bretzman to whom he was married for 42 years. He is also survived by three sons: Anthony W. (Tony) and wife Bev Bretzman of Gardners, Gary A. and wife Michelle Bretzman of Bendersville, Jeffrey L. and wife Kendra Bretzman of Bendersville; three sisters: Sarah B. Randall, Aspers, Ruth E. Bretzman, Bendersville and Jean I. Behney, York Springs; three brothers: Ivan R Bretzman, Mount Holly Springs, Roy E. Bretzman, Aspers and Michael J. Bretzman, Mechanicsburg; stepsister Faith L. Bretman, East Berlin, stepbrother Dale E. Heiner, Spring Grove; two grandsons: Nathan W. Bretzman, Gardners and Benjamin M. Bretzman, Bendersville; two step-grandsons: Allen R. Dunbar, Killeen, TX and Adam J. Dunbar, Cleona and step-great-grandson Keaghan R. Dunbar, Killeen, TX. He was also preceded in death by two brothers Paul E. and John C. Bretzman. Professional services are being handled by Dugan Funeral Home, Inc., 111 South Main St., Bendersville. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday, August 5, at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 126 Church St. Bendersville with the Rev. David Clark officiating. Interment will be in Bendersville Cemetery. A viewing will be held Wednesday, August 4 from 6:00 to 9:00 PM at Dugan Funeral Home, Bendersville. A viewing will also be held Thursday August 5 at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, from 9:00 AM until time of services.
