Carroll Dean Bartle

C. Dean Bartle, age 80, of Shippensburg, got promoted to Heaven on Monday, October 31, 2022 at York Hospital. He was born February 21, 1942 in Greencastle, PA, as the son of the late Ellis Wilmer and Sarah Ruth (Shoap) Bartle.

Dean graduated in the Class of 1960 from Chambersburg High School. He attended Shippensburg University and studied education. He retired from Lincoln Lanes Bowling Center in Chambersburg after starting there as a worker, manager, and eventually owning and operating it for many years. Dean was the President of the Bowling Proprietors’ Association, Pennsylvania Youth Bowling Association and was inducted into the Franklin County Bowling Association Hall of Fame. He also was co-owner of Bartle and Cressler Concessions at Shippensburg University. He was a member of The Open Door Church in Chambersburg and taught Sunday school. In his spare time, he enjoyed camping, model railroads and spending time with family.

Dean is survived by his loving wife, of 22 years, Joyce (Wolfe) Bartle of Shippensburg; daughter, JoAnn Elisabeth Whitmore and her husband, Donald of Chambersburg; son, Douglas Dean Bartle of Chambersburg; step-daughter, Amber Beckering and her husband, Matthew of Fayetteville; seven grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brother, Jaye M. Bartle and two sisters, Ruby C. Kessinger and Joyce Brown.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Joan L. (Clapsaddle) Bartle; stillborn son, Gregory Dean Bartle; brother, George R. Bartle and sister, Naomi Shatzer.

Professional services are entrusted to Dugan Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., Shippensburg.

Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, November 19, 2022 at 3:00 PM at The Open Door Church, 600 Miller St, Chambersburg, PA 17201. A Visitation will be held from 2:00 – 3:00 PM at the church.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Dean’s memory to Cumberland Valley Christian School, 600 Miller St, Chambersburg, PA 17201.
