Catherine L. Washinger

Catherine L. Washinger, age 72 of Shippensburg, passed away Saturday, December 22, 2018 at Chambersburg Hospital. She was born Tuesday, January 8, 1946 in Chambersburg, the daughter of the late Roy F. and M. Louise (Jones) Piper, Sr. She was also predeceased by step-father David E. Karper. Cathy graduated from Shippensburg High School in 1963. She was a majorette in the band and was in the Nine Sharps choral group. She graduated from Hagerstown Business College with an Associate’s Degree in Medical Assistance. She retired from Summit Health in 2008. She had previously served as office manager for Valley Medical Group in Shippensburg for almost 20 years. She was a member of Messiah United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir and was a very active church member. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She loved to knit, crochet, read and do jigsaw puzzles. She and her husband enjoyed spending winters in Florida. She is survived by her husband, of 51 years, Ray C. Washinger. She is also survived by two sons, Tony L. and wife Ronda Washinger of Shippensburg, Matthew W. and wife Jennifer Washinger of Lodi, OH, four grandchildren and two step-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her infant son, R. Scott Washinger and brother, Roy F. Piper, Jr. Professional services are entrusted to Dugan Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., Shippensburg. Memorial services will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, January 6, at Messiah United Methodist Church, 30 S. Penn Street, Shippensburg with Reverend Francis H. Norton officiating. A visitation will be held from 2:00 PM until time of services. A time of fellowship will follow the service.
