Charlene E. Keefer, age 81 of York Springs, passed away Thursday, October 15, 2015 at Holy Spirit Hospital. She was born Monday, October 15, 1934 in South Middleton Cumberland County, the daughter of the late Vance and Carrie (Goudy) Brough. Charlene's education began in the Blackberry School in York Springs. She graduated from York Springs High School in 1952 as valedictorian of her class. She then attended York Hospital School of Nursing graduating with the Class of 1955 as a registered nurse. She and her husband Atlee were married November 18, 1955 and she joined him in his farming operation. She began working as an RN at Annie M. Warner Hospital, now Gettysburg Hospital, January 1956 and continued their part-time until she retired in 2001. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Gettysburg, where she served on the Diaconate, the mission board and in the prayer ministry. She was a member of Ye Olde Sulphur Spa Historical Society, York Hospital School of Nursing Alumni Assoc., the PA Farm Bureau, Adams County Farm Bureau, and the Huntington Township Farm Advisory Council. She served on the Huntington Township Planning Commission and served as Judge of Elections for Huntington Township for many years. Her husband, Atlee L. Keefer passed away January 10, 2000. She is survived by a daughter, Dawn L. and husband Gary Brown of Lancaster, a son, Steven L. and wife Rhonda Keefer, of North Wales, four grandchildren, Robert and Nicholas Keefer and Corey and Lisa Brown, brother, V. Ronald (Skip) Brough of Dillsburg, sister, Donna and husband Donald Weigle of Long wood, FL, two nieces and four nephews. Professional services are entrusted to Dugan Funeral Home, Inc., 111 South Main Street, Bendersville. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Tuesday, October 20 at First Baptist Church of Gettysburg, 1015 Chambersburg Road, Gettysburg with Reverend Carl Harris officiating. Interment will be in Sunnyside Cemetery. A viewing will be held at the funeral home on Monday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM and at the church on Tuesday from 9:30 AM until time of services.
