Charles L. Swope

Charles L. Swope, age 94, formerly of Biglerville, passed away Thursday, January 24, 2019 at Transitions Health Care. He was born Friday, November 28, 1924 in Aspers, the son of the late Ivan G. and Iva P. (Melhorn) Swope. Charlie was formerly employed by Inland Container for 49 years. He was a member of Zion United Church of Christ in Arendtsville. He was a life member of the National Apple Museum in Biglerville. Charlie was an excellent woodworker. Building bird houses was one of his specialties. He also built tables, wagons, trains, wheelbarrows and houses. Charlie enjoyed hunting, fishing and riding bicycles. His first wife Esther M. (Currens) Swope passed away February 17, 1974. His second wife, Jean T. (Talbot) Swope passed away February 7, 2015. He is survived by two daughters, Judy A. and husband Edward Shultz of Gettysburg, Joan M. Noel of New Oxford, one son, Larry L. and wife Patricia Swope of WV, step-daughter Linda Wentworth of Lynn Haven, FL, eight grandchildren, Jennifer Bramble, Donna Noel, Tammy Noel, Wendy Hoover, Don South, Brian Wentworth, Carla Plank and Ryan Taylor, two sisters, Anna Mae Wagner of Gettysburg and Lillian McKenrick of Orrtanna. He was preceded in death by his son David C. Swope, granddaughter Lisa A. Shultz and grandson Andrew B. Taylor, four brothers and four sisters. Professional services are entrusted to Dugan Funeral Home, Inc., 111 South Main Street, Bendersville. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Tuesday, January 29 at Zion United Church of Christ, 3 Gettysburg Street, Arendtsville with Reverend Dr. Kim Blocher officiating. Interment will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens. A viewing will be held on Tuesday from 9:30 AM until time of services. Memorial contributions may be made to Zion United Church of Christ, P.O.
