Crowell G. Bucher, age 97 of Gettysburg, died Saturday, October 20, 2012 at Gettysburg Hospital. He was born Sunday, October 10, 1915 in Gettysburg, the son of the late Samuel Gilbert and Sarah (Mundorff) Bucher. Crowell attended Arendtsville Vocational High School. He was a lifelong beef and cattle farmer. In his younger years, he was a welder and shipbuilder in the Baltimore Ship Yards during WWII. He was the oldest male member of Flohr's Evangelical Lutheran Church in McKnightstown, where he served on church council. He was a 1959 charter member of the Cashtown Lions Club where he received the Melvin Jones Fellow Award for dedicated humanitarian services, Lion of the year 2002-03 for Outstanding Service, Loyalty and devotion to Lionism, and a certificate of appreciation from the Lions Club for his many years of service at the Apple Harvest Festival. He was a life member and past president of the Cashtown Fire Co. where he was a ten year office holder and 1985 Appreciation Award recipient. He held life membership in the Moose of Gettysburg with more than fifty years of membership, member of Eagles of Gettysburg and life member of South Mountain Rangers Riding Club, with Certificate of Appreciation for Organization of the club, assisting with pony rides at the apple harvest and development of the club grounds. He was also a member of the Battlefield Grange since its inception, Adams County Farm Bureau, Biglerville Historical and Preservation Society. He was a regular attendee of Cashtown Senior Citizens and Upper Adams Prayer Breakfast. He and his loving companion and best friend, Teresa Olinger of Orrtanna, delivered meals onwheels in the Upper Adams Area and on Sundays they visited with residents of various nursing homes. His wife of 53 years, Dorothy (Cashman) Bucher passedaway January 4, 1999. He is survived by a son, William J. Bucher of Gettysburg, a daughter, Joan B. and husband Thomas Reeve of Orrtanna, five grandchildren: Emily E. Bucher, Benjamin Z. Reeve, JillR. Bucher, Mallory A. Bucher and Adam B.Reeve; two great-grandsons: Chase and Owen Reeve, a sister, Elizabeth R. McCleaf ofGettysburg and three nephews and two nieces. Special thanks to niece Sue McCleaf Nespeca. He was preceded in death by his sister, A. Margaret Bucher. Professional services are being handled by Dugan Funeral Home, Inc., 111 South Main Street, Bendersville. Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 PM Wednesday, October 24, 2012 at Flohr's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 595 Flohr's Church Road, McKnightstown with Reverend Thomas Darr officiating. Interment will be in Flohr's Church Cemetery. A viewing will be held at the church on Tuesday, October 23 from 7:00 to 9:00 PM.
