Curtis L. Cline, age 89 of Gettysburg, formerly of Gardners, passed away August 8, 2024 at Transitions Health, Gettysburg. He was born May 30, 1935 in Gettysburg to the late Lloyd R. and Esther (Paxton) Cline.
Curtis was a member of Boy Scout Troop 75 of Gardners and was a 1953 graduate of Biglerville High School. He entered the Army in December of 1954. After basic training, he was assigned to Company B-3rd Battalion. He completed medical training in 1955 at Fort Sam Houston, TX and was an Army medic assigned to the 101st Airborne and later stationed in Puerto Rico and Kansas. He left the Army in 1956 and began working at the former Schweitzer’s paper mill in Mt. Holly Springs and then retired as a stock room clerk for Knouse Foods. He attended Mt Holly Springs Church of God and was a member of the Gettysburg Moose. Curtis loved taking care of his home and property and loved the mountain behind his house. He knew all the trails, could find all the charcoal hearths and springs and knew the history of the mountain. Their property bordered Michaux State Forest. He also enjoyed dirt track racing every weekend and was devoted to his “girlfriend”, Josephine, roller skating as a young couple. Together, they toured the entire East Coast and Canada on their motorcycle. He was very proud and fond of his grandkids and great-grandkids and loved his church and church family.
Curtis is survived by his wife of 62 years, Josephine Ruth (McNair) Cline of Gettysburg; daughters, Diane Rider and husband, Doug of Biglerville, Debra Taylor and husband, Bob of Aspers and Lisa Myers and husband, Greg of Newville; grandchildren, Mary and Aaron Rider, Rae Stup and husband, Joel and Adam and Lydia Myers; great-grandchildren, Jackson and Bennett Taylor and Ellie, Hayden and Cora Stup and sister, Nancy Mauss of Biglerville. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Ben Taylor; brother, Richard Cline and sister, Helen Starner.
