David D. Bretzman

David D. Bretzman, age 58 of York Springs, passed away Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at York Hospital. He was born Sunday, October 5, 1958 in Gettysburg, the son of the late Donald A. and Dorothy J. (Rexroth) Bretzman. Dave graduated from Bermudian Springs High School in 1976. After graduation he enlisted in the US Army where he served for eight years as a tank commander, serving five of those years in Germany. He attained the rank of sergeant. Following his military service, he worked for 30 years as a journeyman for Sheet Metal Workers Local 19. Dave enjoyed spending time on his Harley. Several times he rode the Iron Butt ride, a 1,000-mile ride within 24 hours. He was a member of VFW in Mt. Holly Springs, Harley Davidson Owners Group (HOG) at Appalachian Harley Davidson in Mechanicsburg, and a former HOG member at Battlefield Harley Davidson. He also enjoyed flying remote control airplanes. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Virginia R. (Cummings) Bretzman. He is also survived by two stepsons, Robert F. Hawk, III and Russell D. Hawk both York Springs, a granddaughter, Sarah Hawk, three grandsons, Russell Hawk, Jr., Andon Hawk and Avery Hawk all of York Springs, and many aunts and uncles. Professional services are entrusted to Dugan Funeral Home, Inc., 111 South Main Street, Bendersville. Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 PM Tuesday, November 1 at Dugan Funeral Home with Reverend Derek Wadlington officiating. Interment will be in Wenksville Cemetery with military honors provided by Adams County Allied Veterans. A viewing will be held Monday, October 31 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.
