David Herman Cook, age 89 of York Springs, passed away April 14, 2026 at SpiriTrust Lutheran- the Village at Gettysburg. He was born October 15, 1936 in Wertzville to the late Calvin G., Sr. and Alice (Messinger) Cook. He was widowed by his wife, Anna Mae (Stambaugh) Cook, August 15, 2025.
David graduated from Boiling Springs High School in 1956 and served in the US Army National Guard from 1959 to 1964. He was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, a life-member of the York Springs Fire Company, a member of the York Springs Lions Club and served on the board at Sunnyside Cemetery. He was a laborer for Maslands, Bonnie Brae Fruit Farms and retired from Trickl-Eez Co. in 2006.
He is survived by his daughters, Sandra K, Starner and husband, Jeff of New Oxford and Candra N. Bretzman and husband, Roy of Aspers and son, David P. Cook and wife, Tracey of East Berlin; grandchildren, David P. Cook, Jr. and wife, Miranda, Zachery D. Starner and wife, Chelsea, BreAnna J. Barry and husband, Zachery, Joseph W. Starner and Shawney J. Cook; great-grandchildren, Cameron Groomes, Sophia Cook, June Barry and Anna Barry; brother, Russell B. Cook and wife Marie of Carlisle and sister, Patricia L. Shannon of Mt Holly Springs. David was preceded in death by his siblings, Harvey Cook, Alice McCartney, Calvin G. Cook, Jr., Charles Cook, Clara E. McCoy, Marie Diffenderfer, Richard H. Cook, Joanne Cook and Doris Clatterbuck.
Professional services have been entrusted to Dugan Funeral and Cremation, Ltd, 111 S. Main Street, Bendersville. At David’s request, there will be no viewing. Friends are invited to a Celebration of Life service at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 216 Main Street, York Springs, PA 17372 on Friday, May 8, 2026 at 11am. A visitation will be held from 10am until time of service.
