Dean R. Hoffman age 72 ofYork Springs died suddenly on Monday, July 19, 2010 at York Hospital. He was born Friday, December 31, 1937 in York Springs the son of the late Earl R. and Hattie M. (Grove) Hoffman. Dean graduated from York Springs High School in 1955. He graduated from Thompson's Business Institute in 1957 with a degree in Business Administration and from the University of Wisconsin Institute of Banking. He started his business career with Ditzler's Furniture in York Springs. He was employed by PNC Bank formerly Gettysburg National Bank and then CCNB for 34 years. He was a tax preparer for over 50 years and was an enrolled agent with the IRS. He retired as Senior Vice-President of PNC Bank. He had served on the Bermudian Springs School Board acting as treasurer for many years. He was on the Board of Piney Mountain Nursing Home, now Village of Laurel Run, Board of Rhodes Grove Church Camp, Board of Evangelical Theological Seminary in Myerstown, a member of the Chamber of Commerce of Gettysburg, Treasurer of the Farmworkers Fruitbelt Ministry, State Treasurer of the Gideon State Association, Board of Directors of York - Adams American Institute of Banking, served as an Auditor for Huntingdon Township, and President of the Central PA Bank Administrative Institute. He was also a trustee for the Rouzer Foundation. He was a member of the Idaville United Brethren in Christ Church for 52 years. He served on the Church Board of Directors and was church treasurer for 31 years. He was a past Sunday School Teacher and Superintendent. He sang in the choir and also directed the choir for several years. He was awarded Layman of the Year for the Master Men's International. He was a charter member and President of the Adams County Gideons. He is survived by his wife, Doris (Heller) Hoffman to whom he was married for 52 years. He is also survived by his daughter, Donna R. and husband Ronald C. Kerrigan, New Oxford; a sister, Doris J. McCauslin, Dillsburg; four grandchildren: Jessica Leib, York, Travis Nell, Gardners, Derrick Nell, New Oxford and Tesha Kerrigan, New Oxford; and a great grandson, Adler Leib. He was preceded in death by two sons Douglas R. and Duane R. Hoffman. Professional services are being handled by Dugan Funeral Home, Inc., 111 South Main St., Bendersville. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM Friday, July 23, at the Idaville United Brethren in Christ Church, 3560 Carlisle Rd., Gardners with the Rev. Dirk A. Small and Rev. Stuart Johns officiating. Interment will be in Idaville Cemetery. A viewing will be held Thursday, July 22 from 6:00 to 9:00 PM and also on Friday morning from 9:30 until time of services at the Idaville United Brethren in Christ Church.
