Delores "Dee" May Morte moved to her heavenly home on Saturday, May 6, 2023. Dee was deeply loved by her family and friends because of her loving, kind, friendly, and happy spirit. She was courageous, playful, and enjoyed life. Born in 1932 and raised in Oakland, CA, she graduated from Oakland High School in 1950.
After enjoying the single life for a few years, she met and married the man of her dreams, Frank. He introduced her to a life of adventure as a military family. Every three years she joyfully packed up her kids and household and moved to different states and countries, always managing to get the household situated promptly to enjoy the new duty station. Most would say the role of the spouse of a military person is not easy, yet she made it seem like a breeze. Her most important accomplishment was raising four healthy, productive children. Additionally, she served her country as a full-time civil servant for 25 years. She was an avid reader, bowler and golfer, often taking leadership roles in various leagues. She loved flower gardens, and was always meeting new people in her community by participating in fun loving activities.
Dee was a traveler! After the military life, her wanderlust continued. She and Frank enjoyed trips to Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and the entire United States. Some of her favorites were walking on the Wall of China, shopping in Hong Kong, experiencing the beauty of Germany, England, and Switzerland. She loved the culture and seeing grandkids when visiting family stationed in Turkey and Bahrain. They enjoyed their vast experiences throughout the beautiful USA for sure.
She is a woman not to be forgotten. She was a fun Mom and Grandma. Entertaining with her "duck sounds", card and board games, and was courageous to try something new, such as zip lining. She is remembered as being thoughtful, never forgetting a birthday or any occasion for family and friends. Many speak of her kindness and wit.
She is survived by her loving and loyal husband of 69 years - Frank, who adored her. Additionally, her children - Janyce (Fred), David (Joan), Richard, and Wayne (Mary); 11 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and many relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents - George and Lou, and her siblings - Betty and Robert.
Professional services are entrusted to Dugan Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., Shippensburg. A Celebration of Life Service is postponed until a later date. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in memory of Dee to Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8516. Friends may express online condolences at www.DuganFH.com.
