Donald Lee Hippensteel

Donald Lee Hippensteel, age 74 of Shippensburg, passed away Saturday, October 20, 2018 at Martinsburg, VA Hospital in West Virginia. He was born Saturday, January 22, 1944 in Carlisle, the son of the late Carl Hippensteel and Jane Kohler. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army as an expert flamethrower and sharpshooter (Rifle M-1, Rifle M-14, M79 GL and MG 60) during the Vietnam War and received a Good Conduct Medal. Before his retirement, “Hip” was employed by Advanced Auto Parts as a delivery man. He was a member of Shippensburg American Legion Post 223. He is survived by his son, Timmy E. Burkholder and his wife, Tawnya of Shippensburg, two daughters, Lee Ann Watson and her husband, Frank of Jefferson, TX and Bobbie S. Norcross and her husband, Ralph of Chambersburg, brother, Harry Hippensteel, three sisters, Karen Wileman, Patricia Kohler and Joyce Hippensteel, seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret (Burkholder) Hippensteel. Professional services are entrusted to Dugan Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., Shippensburg. Funeral Services will be private at the discretion of the family. In lieu of flowers, the Hippensteel family kindly requests that donations may be made in “Hip’s” name to Martinsburg VA Medical Center, 510 Butler Avenue, Martinsburg, WV 25405.
