Donald L. Danner

Donald L. Danner, age 84 of Chambersburg, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 7, 2013 at Falling Spring Nursing and Rehab surrounded by his family. He was born Friday, July 26, 1929 in Halfway, MD, the son of the late George L. and Fleeta V. (Molar) Danner. Donald graduated from Chambersburg High School in 1948. After graduating high school he joined the U.S. Air Force where he served from 1948-1952. He was employed by Letterkenny Army Depot as a missile inspector and later at DESCOM. He had a total of 42 years of government service. During and after his career, his community services included: President of the Board of Trustees at St. Paul United Methodist Church, President of his Sunday School Class, President of the Cumberland Valley Credit Union, and also President of Franklin County AARP 228. He served on the credit committee at Patriot Federal Credit Union for seventeen years. He volunteered at Chambersburg Hospital, for the American Red Cross as First Aid Inspector and for Habitat for Humanity and served on the Habitat board. He went on mission trips with the South Central Pennsylvania Conference. He enjoyed boating, fishing, traveling, camping, tinkering in his workshop, and above all else spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife of over 62 years, Barbara A. (Griffin) Danner of Chambersburg. He is also survived by daughter, Patty A. Detman wife of Jim of Etters; son, Howard L. Danner of Chambersburg, granddaughter: Melissa A. Forrester wife of Jason of Chambersburg; grandson, Dr. Robert A. Norris III husband of Ashley of Chambersburg, two great-granddaughters Hannah Grace and Emily Anne Forrester both of Chambersburg, one brother Philip R. Danner husband of Karen both of Jamestown, NC, and two nephews Keith Danner of Altoona, and Ryan Danner of Raleigh, NC. Professional services are being handled by Dugan Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., Shippensburg. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, August 9, 2013 at St. Paul United Methodist Church, 750 Norland Avenue, Chambersburg with Pastor Rick Noll officiating. The family will welcome friends from 10:00 AM until the time of the service. Interment will be at Lincoln Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul United Methodist Church, 750 Norland Avenue, Chambersburg, PA 17201, or to Habitat for Humanity Franklin County, 23 North 3rd Street, Chambersburg, PA 17201. He was a very special person to a lot of people and will be greatly missed.
