Dorothy Jean Keefer

May 31, 1940 — March 16, 2025

Dorothy “Jeanie” Keefer, age 84, of Shippensburg, passed away on Sunday, March 16, 2025 at WellSpan York Hospital. She was born May 31, 1940 in McConnellsburg, PA, as the daughter of the late David Franklin and Irene Elizabeth (Rhodes) Coons.

Jeanie graduated in the Class of 1958 from Big Spring High School. She worked as a seamstress for Kinney Shoes, receptionist at State Farm, and in food service for Shippensburg University, where she was well loved by the students there. Jeanie helped Appalachian Christian Ministries which sent clothing and supplies to victims of severe storm all over the states. In her spare time, Jeanie enjoyed her son, Ricky (her “Acorn” and “PTL”) making her laugh to tears, playing cards with her family, playfully cheating in crossword puzzle competitions with her daughter, biting family member’s knee caps and giving them “boney elbow grindies”, picking on those she loved, taking trips to the mountains with the grandchildren, singing “Rocky Top” as the lead singer in Bill and the Wheels Band, square dancing with Michael, sitting on the swing in front of her house and, most of all, being the loudest cheerleader at her grandsons’ sporting events. Her family knows Jeanie as always being a phone call away and could always count on her to be there. She never said no when family was in need, like a Batman signal, she would be there.

Jeanie is survived by her loving significant other of 40 years, Michael Reisinger; one loving daughter, Janey Thrush and her husband, Wade of Shippensburg; loving two sons, Bradley Keefer and his wife, Denise of Saint Thomas, PA and Ricky Keefer and his wife, Beverly Britton of Shippensburg; six grandchildren, Kristen Becker (Paul), Zachary Keefer, Shane Keefer (Chelsea), Jayce Keefer (Amanda), Bailey Keefer (Dominique) and Bradin Keefer; five great-grandchildren, Blake Becker, Colton Becker, Ellington Keefer, Hiesley Keefer and Jameson Keefer; three brothers, David “Sonny” (Dixie), Jackie and Thomas “Tommy” Coons; five sisters, Dixie Weaver, Alice Golden, Bonnie Armolt, Darlene Kelly and Connie Kelly and many special nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Jeanie was preceded in death by her treasured son, Randy Keefer; her former spouse, John L. Keefer; four brothers, Stanley, Eddie, Johnny and Marlin Coons and one sister, Mildred Atherton.

Professional services are entrusted to Dugan Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., Shippensburg.

Private Services will be held at Jeanie’s special place on the mountain.
