Dorothy “Dot” or “Mom” L. Peterson, age 91, of Shippensburg, passed away peacefully Saturday, September 28, 2019 at Paramount Nursing and Rehab in Fayetteville. She was born Thursday, June 28, 1928 in Concord, the daughter of the late William and Olive (Harris) Scott. Dorothy retired from Shippensburg School District as a custodian for 29 years. She was a member of the Minnequa Social Club #375, Durff-Kuhn VFW Post 6168 and American Legion Post 223 in Shippensburg. She was a member of Ridge Church of the Brethren and Carlisle Brethren in Christ Church. She enjoyed going out, listening to music, visiting local festivals, traveling with her daughter, visiting family and friends and going to church. She was known for how she treasured life’s simplest things and always had a sweet smile and compliment. She was a caring and loving mother and grandmother who was devoted to her family and was a friend to all. Dorothy is survived by her loving and devoted daughter, Valerie Griffin of Shippensburg, one son, Glenn E. Peterson, Jr. and his wife, Martha of Carlisle and one other daughter. She is also survived by her former husband, Glenn E. Peterson, Sr. of Shippensburg; two sisters, Joyce Vaughn of Shippensburg and Sarah Diehl of Orrstown; brother, Kenny Scott and his wife Janet of Mercersburg; four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and sister-in-law, Pearl Scott. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Bill Scott, three sisters, Grace Lynn, Mary Myers and Evelyn Green and son-in-law, John Griffin. Professional services are entrusted to Dugan Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., Shippensburg. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, October 4 at Ridge Church of the Brethren, 1095 Ridge Road, Shippensburg with Pastor Leon Davis officiating. A Viewing will be held from 1:00 PM until time of services. A Graveside Service will take place immediately following the funeral service at Ridge Church of the Brethren Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the Peterson family requests that memorial contributions may be made to Dugan Funeral Home and Crematory, 51 Asper Drive, Shippensburg, PA 17257, to help defray the cost of services.
