Dorsey N. Hewitt

Dorsey N. Hewitt, age 89 of Gardners, passed away Friday, May 29, 2015 at Harrisburg Hospital. He was born Friday, April 23, 1926 in Menallen Township Adams County, the son of the late Edwin M. and Beulah G. (Starner) Hewitt. Dorsey graduated from Biglerville High School in 1944. Tuckey Mechanical in Carlisle formerly employed him for 32 years. Prior to his employ at Tuckey, Dorsey was a self-employed carpenter/builder for 23 years. After retirement, he worked at Black's Water Conditioning in Gardners. He was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church in Biglerville, where he currently served as trustee, a position he held for many years. He was also a member of VFW Post 7343 in Mt. Holly Springs, Upper Adams Fish and Game and the NRA. Dorsey loved to fish and was an avid hunter. He served in the US Army during World War II in the European Theater in Germany. He was assigned to an artillery unit. He served as instructor in the maintenance and operation of artillery weapons. He is survived by his wife, Irene A. (Rickrode) Hewitt to whom he was married for 63 years on May 17. He is also survived by a daughter, Cheryl E. and Bob Meyers of Orrtanna;, a son, Daryl E. Hewitt of Millersburg; two granddaughters, Lori Richards and Trisha Brandt; two great-grandsons, Joshua Brandt and Reed Richards; three sisters, Eleanor Lupp of Gettysburg, Grace Rider of McSherrystown, Goldie White of Harrisburg and a brother, Leroy Hewitt of Crescent City, FL. He was predeceased by a great-grandson, Trindal Richards. Professional services are entrusted to Dugan Funeral Home, Inc. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, June 4 at Dugan Funeral Home, 111 South Main Street, Bendersville with Reverend Gary Fanus officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Tabor Cemetery. A viewing will be held at Dugan Funeral Home on Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to Centenary United Methodist Church, PO Box 544, Biglerville, PA 17307.
