Robert C. Beatty, D. Min., LTC (USA Ret.), age 76, 28 Logans Run, Enola, PA, known to his students as "Dr. Bob", died Tuesday, August 9, 2011 from cancer of the brain at Shippensburg Health Care Center, Shippensburg, PA. A viewing will be held at Dugan Funeral Home and Crematory, 51 Asper Drive, Shippensburg on Saturday, August 13 at 2:00 PM with funeral services following at 3 o'clock.Pastor Todd Risser of Shippensburg Church of the Nazarene will officiate. Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery, Washington D.C on Tuesday, November 8 at 3:00 PM with Dr. Joseph Henriques officiating.A memorial service is planned at Calvary Chapel of Fort Lauderdale, FL. The details of that service will be posted when available. Dr. Beatty was born May 19, 1935, in Needham, Massachusetts, the son of Dr. and Mrs. H. Russell Beatty. The senior Dr. Beatty became the well-known President of Wentworth Technical Institute and Wentworth College in Boston. Dr. Robert Beatty graduated from Bernards High School in Bernardsville, New Jersey, and Northeastern University in Boston. He later earned a Master's Degree in Business Administration, summa cum laude, from Fairleigh Dickinson University. This was followed by a Master's of Divinity and a Master of Arts in Religion from Columbia International University, Columbia, South Carolina. His terminal degree was a Doctorate of Ministries from Fuller Theological Seminary. In 1957, he entered the U.S. Army Signal Corps as a 2nd Lieutenant. He served 23 � years, concluding his military career as a Lieutenant Colonel. He served two tours in Vietnam, 7 years in Europe, and completed his service with a tour of duty at the Pentagon in the Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff for Logistics. He held 12 badges and medals, the highest being the Legion of Merit. Upon retiring from the Army, Dr. Beatty enrolled at Columbia International University, where he became a faculty member upon graduation. He was ordained to the Teaching Ministry at Harmony Church of Sumter, South Carolina. For nine years, he and his wife, Carolyn, were Prison Fellowship volunteers in several of the state prisons in Columbia. In 1989, he and his family moved to Sunrise, Florida, where he assumed headship of Department of Business Administration at Miami Christian College. MCC became the Florida campus of Trinity International University of Deerfield, Illinois. Before retiring from Trinity, Dr. Beatty administered and taught in the Post-Graduate Program, Florida Campus, of Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. He completed his teaching career by serving at Calvary Chapel of Fort Lauderdale, where he held classes at both the Bible Institute and Calvary Christian Academy. Dr. Bob was beloved and respected by his many students. A number have written to tell him how much he meant to them and how greatly he will be missed. They mention especially his warmth, his personal interest in each of them, and the example he set as a man of faith and integrity. His influence in their lives continues long past their school years. In addition to caring for his family and participating in Scouting with his sons, Dr. Beatty was active for some years in Sojourners, the Royal Arch Masons, and the Red Cross Constantine. In various churches, he sat on advisory boards, taught classes, and acted as a member of Ordination Councils. He made five trips to Chisinau, Moldova, with Crossover International to teach Bible courses to local students and pastors. Some of these students have gone on to form a Seminary in Moldova and are now sending out missionaries of their own. Dr. Beatty is survived by his wife of 53 years, the former Carolyn Caton of Quincy, Massachusetts. He has two sons, R. Russell Beatty of Leesburg, Virginia, husband to Catherine, and Daniel C. Beatty of San Mateo, California, husband to Viktoria. He also has two daughters, Melissa L. McGrath of Herndon, Virginia, and Alicia F. Gluckman of Chambersburg, PA, wife to David. He was grandparent to six children; Melody J. Knoll, wife of Robert; Veronica C-M. McGrath; Robin C. McGrath; Eric R. Beatty, husband to Savannah; Sarah E. Beatty; and Aleksandr C. Beatty. He was much loved by his family, who will miss him until the day they all meet again with Christ in Eternity.
