Earl D. Peters

November 7, 1925 — February 18, 2021

Earl D. Peters, age 95, Fayetteville, passed away Thursday, February 18, 2021 at Michaux Manor Living Center in Fayetteville. He was born November 7, 1925 in Huntington Township, son of the late Danner A. and Blanche E. (Weidner) Peters. Earl graduated in 1942 from Biglerville High School. In 1947, he served as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII. In 1953, Earl received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Huntington University, Huntington, Indiana. In 1957, he earned a Bachelor of Divinity degree and Masters of Divinity degree in 1958 from Huntington University, Huntington, Indiana. Earl served as a Pastor in The Church of United the Brethren in Christ at various locations and for 23 years. He served on many study committees and boards in the Pennsylvania Conference, Church of the United Brethren in Christ. He was an elected delegate to six General Conferences of the Church of the United Brethren in Christ, and served as Recording Secretary at its 1961 quadrennial sessions. He also served on four denominational boards. He served on the Board of Directors of former Piney Mountain Home for 23 years and was Chairman for 18 years. Earl is survived by three daughters, Nancy (Barry) Fortna of Derwood, MD, Sally (Lee) Wadel of Shippensburg, and Patricia (Joey) Hann of Chambersburg; a son, James Peters of Stevensville, MD; a step-son, Randall (Chantal) Wagner of Shippensburg; five grandchildren, Aubrey Peters, Jason Peters, Jared (Michael) Fortna, Ian Hann and Lindsey (Marcus) Weibley; and great-grandson, Colton Weibley. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife who passed in August 2020, Melva L. Peters; one sister, Ruth (Peters) Bringle Newton and two brothers, Kenneth Peters and Ray Peters. Professional services are entrusted to Dugan Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., Shippensburg. Private Services will be held at the discretion of the family. Interment will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens.
