Edith Delores Kitzmiller

Edith, “Edie”, Delores Kitzmiller, age 87, of Newburg, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 31, 2023 surrounded by her loving family at WellSpan Chambersburg Hospital in Chambersburg. She was born April 4, 1936 in Hopewell Township, PA, as the daughter of the late Frank Guy Rotz and Mildred May (Holtry) Rotz.

Edie graduated in the Class of 1954 from Shippensburg High School. She went on to be a homemaker for many years, and later worked as a bank teller for Citizens Bank. Towards retirement, Edie and her husband Lester owned their own gift shop called, Li’l Country Shoppe in Newburg. She was a member of Newville First Church of God and Happy Helpers senior group. In earlier years, she was a member of Newburg First Church of God, Ever Ready Sunday School Class, where she faithfully served as a kitchen angel, nursery coordinator and in various other ways. In her spare time, Edie enjoyed gardening in her flower garden and had the gift of hospitality. She also loved being a mom and a grandmother. Edie is known by her family for always having a song in her heart and humming beloved hymns.

Edie is survived by her loving husband, of 69 years, Lester Ray Kitzmiller of Newburg; five children, Karen Reath and her husband, Allan of Shippensburg, Elaine Good and her husband, Wayne of Shippensburg, Jeffrey Kitzmiller and his wife, Christie of Newburg, Christine Frey and her husband, Luther of Shippensburg and Michael Kitzmiller and his wife, Lisa of Newburg; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and one on the way; sister, Helen Burkholder of Newburg and her beloved dog, “Millie”.

In addition to her parents, Edie was preceded in death by her son, Dennis Ray Kitzmiller; four sisters, Minerva Culbertson, Ardella Rotz, Rose Bender and Mildred Daihl and two brothers, Melvin Rotz and Dana Rotz.

Professional services are entrusted to Dugan Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., Shippensburg. A Public Evening Viewing will be held on Thursday, January 4, 2024 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Dugan Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 51 Asper Drive, Shippensburg, PA 17257. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, January 5, 2024 at 1:00 PM at Newville First Church of God, 475 Shippensburg Road, Newville, PA, 17241, with Pastor Wayne Good and Pastor Richard Reese officiating. A Public Viewing will take place from 12:00 PM until the time of services. A Procession will follow the services to Zion United Church of Christ Cemetery in Newburg.
