Edna, “Nana” or “Grandma Neenie”, Jane Mooney, age 97, of Chambersburg, passed away on Friday, April 14, 2023 surrounded by her family at her home in Chambersburg. She was born July 28, 1925 in Saint Thomas, PA, as the daughter of the late Charles Walter and Stella Elizabeth (Horn) Reath.
Edna originally worked as a seamstress at The Stanley Manufacturing Company in Chambersburg and had several other jobs until she retired from Burkhart's Restaurant in Shippensburg as a cook. She was a member of Mount Pleasant United Brethren Church in Chambersburg. In her spare time, Edna enjoyed baking pies, watching game shows like Price is Right, Jeopardy, etc., gardening, flowers and spending time with her family.
She is survived by her two loving daughters, Patricia Carey of York and Lois Stanton of Chambersburg; loving son, Lawrence E. Mooney, III of Bellington, WV; sister, Alma Collins of Fayetteville; five grandchildren, Stephen Carey, Marcus Carey, Michael Carey, Evan Lee Jones and Michael Mooney; four great-grandchildren, Naomi, Titus, Heavenly and Reath, all Jones’s and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Lawrence E. Mooney, Jr, who passed in January 1995, two brothers, and eight sisters.
Professional services are entrusted to Dugan Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., Shippensburg. Public Graveside Services will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, April 20, 2023 at Parklawns Memorial Gardens, 3218 Philadelphia Ave, Chambersburg, PA 17201, with Pastor Robert Mentzer and Chaplain Karen Brown officiating.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Children’s Aid Society for The Lehman Center, 343 Lincoln Way West, New Oxford, PA 17350.
