Edwin "Ted" C. Wentz

Pastor Edwin "Ted" C. Wentz, age 92 of Mechanicsburg, passed away Friday, February 17, 2017 at Messiah Village. He was born Sunday, August 31, 1924 in Blain the son of the late Robert Paul and Ruth (Book) Wentz. Edwin graduated from Biglerville High School in 1943 and from Gettysburg College in 1948. He received his Masters of Divinity from Gettysburg Lutheran Theological Seminary in 1951. He and his wife Betty worked as missionaries in Japan for the Evangelical Lutheran Church from 1951 to 1989. He and his wife Betty are members of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Biglerville. He honorably served his country in the Army during World War II from 1943 to1945 in the European theatre. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Betty F. (Slaybaugh) Wentz. He is also survived by three daughters, Virginia Wentz Berry and husband Paul of Niantic, CT, Elizabeth A. Bucher and husband Tom of Mechanicsburg, Michal W. Howell and husband Dave of Stroudsburg, five grandchildren and five great- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Wayne and Donald. Professional services are entrusted to Dugan Funeral Home, Inc., 111 South Main Street, Bendersville. A Celebration of Ted's Life will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, March 3 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 25 Franklin Street, Biglerville with Reverend Susan McCarthy officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
