Elizabeth M. Honstine

Elizabeth M. Honstine, age 59, of Carlisle, passed away Sunday, December 6, 2020. She was born Sunday, July 30, 1961 in Charleston, SC, the daughter of the late D. Frederick and Sylvia E. (Prough) Honstine. Liz graduated from Huntingdon Area High School in 1979, where she was a member of the National Honor Society, color guard of the marching band and proudly played softball. She earned a Bachelor's degree in Behavior Science and Religion from Messiah College in 1983. Before becoming disabled, she had worked at several local nursing homes, in their activities departments. Out of college, she had a very active role in the Jacobs Brothers Gospel singing group. Liz was an avid and enthusiastic Penn State Fan!!! She enjoyed the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pittsburgh Pirates. She also loved NASCAR, hunting and being outdoors. She was a Girl Scout Leader in the Hemlock Council in Central PA. She enjoyed reading and had become a mentor to several up and coming authors. She is survived by her companion of 27 years, Michelle N. Shaffer of Carlisle. She is also survived by two sisters, Virginia A. Snare and companion Al Ogden of Towanda, Sherry D. and husband Wes Miles of Hesston; uncle, Kenneth D. Honstine of Huntingdon and brother-in-law, Timothy A. Snare of Huntingdon. She was proud of her nephews, Timothy D. Snare and wife Melanie, Carl T. Snare and wife Jessica and niece, Sarah Elizabeth Snare all of Huntingdon, Allen Wagner and companion Bri Edwards, Adam Wagner and wife Ashley of Huntingdon and Ryan Wagner and wife Brooke of Imler; five great-nephews; one great-niece and one nephew to be born in January. Professional services are entrusted to Dugan Funeral Home, Inc., 111 South Main Street, Bendersville. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, December 11 at Dugan Funeral Home with Pastor Stuart Johns officiating. Interment will be in Wenksville Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Friday from 12 Noon until time of services. Memorial contributions may be made to Benevolent Fund at Chapel Pointe, 770 S. Hanover Street, Carlisle, PA 17013.
