Elizabeth L. Pierce

May 13, 1931 — July 9, 2021

It is with sadness that our mother, Elizabeth “Betty” Lorraine Rhine Truett Pierce, age 90, of Shippensburg, passed away peacefully at her home on the morning of Friday, July 9, 2021. She was born May 13, 1931, in Gettysburg, the daughter of the late Milton Albert Sr., and Margaret Riddle (Finney) Rhine. Written by her granddaughter, Melissa: Gram was beautiful and all dolled up to the end. She was a wonderful cook and she lived for the holidays. She had a love for white Christmas trees with twinkling lights and red poinsettias. She also enjoyed wrapping gifts, baking cookies, and hosting parties. She loved to entertain, laugh, and play 500 Rummy, passing along all her love to her grandchildren throughout the years. She loved like no other. I would call her almost weekly and before we hung up, I would say, “BEST grandma ever” and she’d laugh and say, “Thank you honey.” She will be missed by many, but her family is happy she is home. I can also picture her in Heaven asking her friends and family “How the heck are ya?” Gram would be looking for her family who were waiting for her there. I can imagine it to be a grand reunion. Mel Elizabeth is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, William T. Pierce of Shippensburg; three children, Charles E. Truett Jr. and wife Judy, Jimmie A. Truett and wife Esther, and Sallie E. Truett Aldrich; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Patsy Like Rhine; and several cousins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Helen L. Bennett; and one brother, Milton A. Rhine, Jr. Elizabeth was the last of her immediate family. Professional Services are entrusted to Dugan Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., Shippensburg. A private family interment will be held on a later date at Lincoln Cemetery, Chambersburg, PA. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Betty’s memory to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 15120, Chicago, IL 60693.
