Emory E. Raffensperger, Jr., age 87, ofBiglerville died Tuesday, February 22, 2011 at Gettysburg Hospital. He was born Tuesday, June 26, 1923 in Biglerville the son of the late Emory E. and Nora (Heiges) Raffensperger Sr. Emory graduated from Biglerville High School in 1942. He and his brother Fredowned Raffensperger Bros. Farms where they grew fruits and vegetables, raised cattle, pigs and operated a cage layer house for chickens. Hewas then employed by USDA as a fresh fruit inspectorfor 10 years retiring in 1990. He was a member of Memorial Baptist Church where he served as Deacon for eight years. He served 12 years on Biglerville Borough Council and was a member of the Biglerville Fire Co. He is survived by his wife Vivian J. (Ruth) Raffensperger to whom he was married for 57 years. He is also survived by a daughter, Robin R. Stoops of Saint Thomas, two sons: Richard D. Raffensperger of Biglerville, Ronald L. Raffensperger of Orrtanna; six grandchildren: Janelle Amsley, James Amsley, Benjamin Raffensperger, Rebecca Raffensperger, Kayla Raffensperger, and Shannon Raffensperger; a great grandson Cody Raffensperger, one brother, Frederick Raffensperger of Manheim. He was preceded in death by three sisters: Loretta Raffensperger Kline, Nettie Raffensperger, and Carrie Myrtle Raffensperger, and two brothers, Ivan and Stanley. Professional services are being handled by Dugan Funeral Home, Inc., 111 South Main Street, Bendersville. Funeral Services will be held at 11:30 AM Saturday, February 26 at Memorial Baptist Church, 1096 Biglerville Road, Gettysburg with Reverend Steve Baker officiating. Private interment will be in Biglerville Cemetery at the discretion of the family. A viewing will be held at the church on Saturday from 10:00 AM until time of services.
