Emory, “Red”, “Uncle Abe”, “Mert”, Richard Furry, age 88, of Scotland, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 8, 2022 with his loving wife, Margaret (Brightbill Koser) Furry by his side at their home. He was born on December 23, 1933 in Scotland, Pennsylvania. Emory could accomplish anything he set his mind to do. His interest in aviation and auto racing began at a very early stage in life, which led him to serve in the United States Air Force as Staff Sergeant from 1954 to 1968. He was stationed in Iceland, Colorado, Delaware, Korea, Texas, Georgia, where he specialized in radar technology. Emory was a “jack of all trades” and always enjoyed staying busy. He owned Furry’s Auto Bodyshop, where his passion for working on cars flourished and also owned Colonial Furniture Restoration where he enjoyed refurbishing furniture. He worked for Valley Bank as a courier and at Rosenberry Meats in Chambersburg. Emory’s hobbies included watching NASCAR Auto Racing, specifically stock cars. He was a true history buff and avid reader of aviation and World War II. His most loved hobby was fishing at Pot Nets, DE. He spent much time on his boat and worked on it vigorously. Emory enjoyed feeding the birds and squirrels, tending to his lawn, and working in his workshop. He took pride in helping with community with restoration projects and festivals, as well as being actively involved as an Elder at the Presbyterian Church in Shippensburg. He is preceded in death by his father, Samuel O. Furry, Sr.; mother, Florence (Shields) Furry; brother, Charles Furry and first wife, Lynette Furry. Emory is lovingly survived by his wife of 46 years, Margaret Furry; brother, Samuel O. Furry, Jr. (Pat); son, Bruce Furry (Darlene); daughter, Bonita Leedy (Garl); stepson, Frank Koser, II (Laura); 5 grandchildren, Anthony Furry, Danielle Leedy, Kevin Schaeffer, Wade Koser and Alicia Koser; 2 step-grandchildren, Ashley Overcash and Amber Leedy; 9 great-grandchildren, Caleb Furry, Isabelle Furry, Bailey Leedy, Brooke Leedy, Kimberly Wagner, Ashley Schaeffer, Payne Schaeffer, Nathaniel Koser and Grayson Koser; two great-great grandchildren, Amelia Wagner and Otto Wagner and several nieces and nephews. Professional services are entrusted to Dugan Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., Shippensburg. A Public Viewing will be held from 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM on Monday, August 15, 2022 at Presbyterian Church, 12 South Prince Street Shippensburg, PA 17257. The Funeral Service will begin at 12:00 PM with Pastor Michael K. Miller officiating and a Procession to follow services to Parklawns Memorial Gardens in Chambersburg.
