Eugene R. Funt Sr.

Eugene “Gene” R. Funt, Sr., age 82, of Orrtanna, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 8, 2024 at Paramount Nursing and Rehab in Fayetteville. He was born October 9, 1941 in Gettysburg, as the son of the late Ray F. Funt and Evelyn M. (Carey) Funt.

Eugene attended Gettysburg High School. After high school, he enlisted in the US Army. He then went on to work as an equipment operator for PennDOT for over 30 years. He was a member of Flohr’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in McKnightstown, AMVETS Post #172, VFW Post #15 and The Fraternal Order of Eagles, all in Gettysburg.

In his spare time, Eugene enjoyed John Deere tractors. Eugene is survived by his loving son, David C. Funt and his wife, Kelly of Gettysburg; granddaughter, Carlee Martin and her husband, Kyle of Gettysburg; sister, Darlene Shiner and her husband, Danny of McKnightstown, and two nieces, Pam and Tammy. In addition to his parents, Eugene was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Sarah Evelyn (Riley) Funt, who passed in 2016, and his two sons, Allan R. Funt and Eugene R. Funt, Jr.

Professional services are entrusted to Dugan Funeral Home, Inc., 111 South Main St., Bendersville. Memorial Services will be held on Monday, January 15, 2024 at 7:00 PM at Dugan Funeral Home, Inc., with Pastor Dennis Probst officiating. A Visitation will take place from 6:00 PM until the time of services.
