Eugene A. "Bud" Koontz, age 64 of Gardners, passed away Friday, August 24, 2018 at his home. Bud was born May 31, 1954 in Carlisle, the son of the late Eugene W. and Jessie Alexander Koontz. For the last year and one month, Bud has been in and out of the hospital. In this time, he always found comfort in his friends from the Upper Adams Fish and Game Club which he was a member for over 50 years. He worked for Ralph Tyson right after he graduated from Bermudian Springs High School in 1973. Years after that, Chet Tyson took over the farm. Bud has been with the Tyson's for 45 years. He was so happy with his friends from Crestmont Orchards, always looking forward to apple season. He enjoyed working with the apple pickers. Bud always had a special sense of humor. He had a kind heart when it came to caring for others. He enjoyed the common life. His dream was to live in a small shack along the beach with his sister Dorothy and their dog, Billy and watch the sun come up over the ocean and fish in the early morning. According to Dorothy, no one could have had a better, caring brother than Bud. Bud and his mother will be with Dorothy every sunrise until they are all reunited. Dorothy greatly appreciates the friendship and assistance given to Bud and her by one of their special neighbors, Brenda. Brenda was by their side through Bud's illness, assisting Dorothy in Bud's care, assisting with meals, and sitting with Dorothy while Bud was in the nursing home. She would also stay with Bud while his sister ran errands Their other neighbors, Bob and Mary, were also by Dorothy and Bud's side, assisting them in many different ways, throughout his illness. In addition to the Upper Adams Fish and Game, Bud was a life member of the Bendersville Fire Company. He is survived by his sister Dorothy L. Koontz of Gardners. Professional services are entrusted to Dugan Funeral Home, Inc., 111 South Main Street, Bendersville. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, August 29, at Idaville United Brethren Church, 3590 Carlisle Road, Gardners, with Reverend Stuart Johns officiating. Interment will be in Idaville Cemetery. A viewing will be held at the church on Tuesday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.
