Evan James Weaver, 8, of Shippensburg, PA now living with Jesus since Monday, October 30, 2023. Born February 23, 2015 in Chambersburg, being wise beyond his years, and finding a way to be tougher than the average grown man earned him his title “man child”. Evan was a lover of all things tractors and trucks, especially Ford diesels. His eyes and ears were always in tuned for a black exhaust cloud and a turbo whistle.
From a young age he knew his way around a construction site well, critiquing and dreaming of building homes with his Daddy; earning him yet a different title, “the boss”. Evan excelled in school while attending Shalom Christian Academy and successfully completed 2nd grade online with the gracious help of his Mommaw. His quick-witted wisdom could liven up and bring real meaning to any exchange. He was never one for the spotlight but always attentive to being his true self. Jimmy (yet another nickname) was a patriot and wore his American flag cowboy boots and belt buckle proudly every chance possible. He was created to touch the hearts of many and that he did with a simple grin of his shining excellence.
Evan James held his head high and his heart close to his Lord as he endured radiation and chemotherapy after having a brain tumor removed in May of 2022. On July 5th, 2023, he rang the victory bell signifying completion of treatment and being cancer free for over a year; for which he triumphantly conquered beautifully. Only to be greeted by cancer again the very next day. Evan was a strong warrior and gave it his all. After the longest, shortest, hardest battle, just shy of four months, Evan is finally able to find rest and play as a young child should, on the streets of heaven.
He’s certainly made more than a few people proud, especially his loving parents, Eric and Emily Weaver; his big brother, Emeric and little sister, Ellie; paternal grandparents, Thomas and Deborah Weaver of Shippensburg; maternal grandparents, Paul and Jeannette Gelsinger of Orrstown; several loving aunts and uncles; many cousins; second cousins and his beloved family dogs, “Smokey” and “Henry” and bunny, “Buttercup”.
