Frank G. Morte, age 95, of Rocklin CA, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 27, 2024, surrounded by his family at their home in Chambersburg. He was born January 7, 1929 in Oakland, California, as the son of the late Frank Gonsalves Morte, Sr. and Irene (Mello) Waage.
Frank attended high school in Oakland, CA. At the young age of 16, he joined Merchant Marines as a Messman. He then traveled all around the world, including Japan, Philippines, India and came back to New York. He got on an airplane and went back to California to be with family. Frank joined the Army and would go on to serve in the Korean War and Vietnam War. He was awarded the WWII Victory Medal and various other medals throughout his service. He met his wife, Delores May (Davis) and married in 1954, enjoying 69 years together. They got to travel the world with each other and share many amazing memories raising their family. They lived in Alaska when it became a state, and also lived in Texas, Louisiana, Arizona, California, and even Taiwan. In 1970, he retired from the Army. He was a scratch bowler, an avid golfer and played minor league baseball. In his spare time, Frank enjoyed tole painting, traveling, and spending time with his family. He was known to his family as the one with all the best stories and was the life of the party.
Frank is survived by his daughter, Janyce Collier and her husband, Fred of Chambersburg, PA; three sons, David Morte and his wife, Joan of Wedgefield, SC, Richard Morte, Roseville, CA, and Wayne Morte and his wife, Mary of Orangevale, CA; eleven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Frank was preceded in death by his wife, Delores who passed in May 2023 and two siblings, Virginia Gifford and Melvin Morte.
Professional services are entrusted to Dugan Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., Shippensburg. Memorial Services are at the discretion of the family.
