Franklin L. Becraft

June 24, 1933 — December 3, 2019

Franklin Lloyd Becraft, age 86, passed away peacefully Tuesday, December 3, 2019 surrounded by his family at his residence in Shippensburg. He was born June 24, 1933 in Olney, MD, the son of the late Benjamin Henry Becraft and Catherine (Mills) Howell. Franklin attained a Bachelor’s Degree in Art Education from the University of Maryland. He proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1961-1978 serving in both the Vietnam and Korean Wars. He then retired from the Army as a Major. He later went on to work as a furniture interior decorator at Earley’s and David’s Furniture. He was an active and faithful member at Carlisle Baptist Church where he served as Deacon and Sunday school teacher. In his spare time, he enjoyed collecting coins, gardening, doing interior design work, reading and sharing his faith. He was a good father and grandfather to his family and will be missed by many. He is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Mary (Bear) Becraft of Shippensburg. He is also survived by daughter, Elizabeth Ward (Jimmy) of Kasilof, AK; son, Timothy A. Becraft (Julie) of Carlisle; step-son, Gerald L. Stake (Jami); step-daughters, Anita R. Smith (Ron) of Shippensburg and Beverly K. George (Duff) of Carlisle; sister, Linda Kesterson (Roger) of MD; brothers, Donald Becraft of Hagerstown, MD and Francis Becraft of Baltimore, MD; 14 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Professional services are entrusted to Dugan Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., Shippensburg. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, December 6 at Carlisle Baptist Church, 701 Walnut Bottom Road, Carlisle with Pastor Ed Roman officiating. A Viewing will be held from 12:00 PM until the time of services. Interment will follow on another day at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery in Annville, PA. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Franklin’s memory to Carlisle Baptist Church, 701 Walnut Bottom Road, Carlisle, PA 17013.
