Frederick R. Schmetzer

Frederick R. Schmetzer, age 44 of Biglerville, passed away Wednesday, October 21, 2015 at Gettysburg Hospital. He was born March 23, 1971 in Cambria Heights NY, the son of Joan Schmetzer of Biglerville and the late Frederick H. Schmetzer. Fred attended Sewanhaka High School in Floral Park NY. He was employed by Target Distribution Center in Chambersburg, and was a member of the Sons of the American Legion Post 262 Biglerville. Fred loved tinkering and woodworking, was a "Mr. Fix-it", enjoyed playing pool, sitting around a bonfire, and was a practical joker. He always had a smile, a joke, or a shoulder to cry on, for anyone. Fred is survived by his Partner Sara Barrera, and whole-heartedly accepted the role of "Dad" to her son, Avery, both of Biglerville, and also to Quiggley. He is also survived by two sisters, MaryEllen (Susie) Dickinson of Bendersville and Kathleen Rudisill of York Springs; two brothers, Donald Hance of VA and Thomas Hance of NY; 8 nieces and 8 nephews. Two brothers preceded him in death, Robert Schmetzer and Richard Hance. Fred helped raise his nephews Richard and Vincent Bove, his niece Teri Hake, and has been a father figure to his nephews Gavin and Drake Hance. Professional services are entrusted to Dugan Funeral Home, Inc., 111 S. Main St Bendersville. Memorial services will be held at 7:00 PM on Monday, November 2 at Dugan Funeral Home with Reverend Thomas Darr officiating.
