G. Robert "Bob" Ditchburn, 90, of Gettysburg died Thursday, June 30, 2011 at the Gettysburg Lutheran Home. He was born Thursday, April 14, 1921 in Gettysburg the son of the late George D. and Edith Sheads Ditchburn. Bob graduated from Gettysburg High School as part of the class of 1939 and he attended the University of Pennsylvania. He was a member of the Gettysburg Presbyterian Church, the Adams County Historical Society, and the Kentucky Rifle Association where he was one of its first members. He worked in Barge Dunmoyer's Machine Shop. During WWII he made airplane parts for the US Government. He worked as a curator for the Pennsylvania State Museum. He was a self employed gunsmith who specialized in making Kentucky Rifles and grandfather clocks. He enjoyed photography, metal detecting, fishing, hunting, canoeing and bow and arrow shooting. Bob is survived by his loving wife of almost 70 years: Pearl "Peggy" M. (Brown) Ditchburn; two daughters: Barbara L. Senier of York Springs, Margaret E. Shaffer of Loveland, Colorado; five grandchildren;ten great-grandchildren andsix great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death bya great-grandson, Josh Harman. Professional services are being handled byDugan Funeral Home Bendersville, PA. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, July 6 at 10:00 AMatEvergreen Cemetery, 799 Baltimore Street, Gettysburg, PAwith ReverendLou Nyiri officiating. The family suggests memorial contributions may be madeto the charity of the donor's choosing.
