Gary R. Miller

Gary R. Miller, age 65 of Gettysburg, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 30, 2013 at Gettysburg Center. He was born Thursday, January 22, 1948 in Gettysburg, the son of the late Richard E. and Marion M. (Mayer) Miller. Gary graduated from Gettysburg High School in 1965. He owned and operated Gary Miller Service Station on Old Harrisburg Road for 37 years. He was a Life Member of the Heidlersburg Fire Company and a member of the Adams County Fire Chiefs Assoc.He was also a member of Ira E. Lady American Legion Post 262 in Biglerville, VFW Post 15 in Gettysburg, Mummasburg Sportsman's Club, FOE #1526 of Gettysburg, and a past member of the Gettysburg Little Leagueand Teener League where he coached and umpired in both. He was a past 4H leader in Heidlersburg. He shot pool in the Tri-town pool league for more than 40 years. Gary enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and spending time with grandchildren. He served in the US Navy during the Vietnam War. He served actively for four years and 23 years as a reservist. He was a Plank Owner of US Navy memorial and life member of the Naval Enlisted Reserve Assoc. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Sherry (Adams) Miller. He is also survived by a son, Darrell J. Miller and companion Jodie F. Sneed of Biglerville, one granddaughter Emma Lynn Miller, step-grandchildren Ian, Allison, Shannon and Sean Sneed; three sisters: Linda McNew of Orrtanna, Helen Bair of Gettysburg and Rose McCleaf of Aspers He was preceded in death by his daughter Corrinna Lynn Miller in 1980. Professional services are being handled by Dugan Funeral Home, Inc., 111 South Main Street, Bendersville. A Celebration of Gary's Life will be held at 7:00 PM Wednesday, August 7, 2013 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 25 Franklin Street, Biglerville withReverend Susan McCarthy officiating. A gathering of friends will take place on Wednesday from 5:00PM until time of services. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Gary's name to Benders Lutheran Church, 1385 Rentzel Road, Biglerville, PA 17307 or the Adams Co. SPCA, 11 Goldenville Road, Gettysburg, PA 17325.
