George Calvin Fissel, QMC Retired Navy, age 89, died Saturday, December 10, 2016 at The Village of Laurel Run, Fayetteville. Born August 2, 1927 in Butler Twp, Adams County, to the late Elmer Blair and Altoona Maude (Steinour) Fissel. He was preceded in death by his wife, E Arlene (Goheen) Fissel, two brothers and a sister. George served in the Navy from July 30, 1945 to August 16, 1976 during which time he served in three wars: WWII, and the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He married E. Arlene Goheen on November 5, 1955 and worked for the Adams County Courthouse in the Mapping Department. George was an active member of the American Legion, Ira E Lady Post 262, Biglerville, Arendtsville Lions Club, Trinity Lutheran Church, Arendtsville, 40/8 Voiture Locale 731, The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 15, Adams County Republican Club and Gettysburg, Moose Lodge 1526, Gettysburg, He is survived by his three daughters: Pai A Swanger, (husband, Rev. Logan ) of Mechanicsburg, PA; Gay D Gardner, (husband, David) of Salem, MA; and Valerie M Tuxhorn, Springfield, IL, five grandchildren, a great-grandson, two sisters and a brother. Professional services are entrusted to Dugan Funeral Home, Inc. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, December 16 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 38 N. High Street, Arendtsville with Reverend Ben Seibert officiating. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery. Friends may pay their respects at Dugan Funeral Home, 111 South Main Street, Bendersville from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, Thursday, December 15 and also at the church on Friday from 10:00 AM until time of services. In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made to American Legion Ira E Lady Post 262, 142 4th Street, Biglerville, PA 17307, Trinity Lutheran Church, PO Box 309, Arendtsville, PA 17303, and Arendtsville Lions Club, Arendtsville, PA.
