George Earl Lautsbaugh, age 87, of Newville, passed away Sunday, April 3, 2022 with his wife by his side at their residence in Newville. He was born March 13, 1935 in Shippensburg, the son of the late Lester and Margaret (Millhouse) Lautsbaugh. He was preceded in death by two sons, Georgie and Jason Lautsbaugh. George graduated in the Class of 1953 from Shippensburg High School. He served in the U.S. Army. A Tribute to a Life . . . Written by George’s wife, Ruth Lautsbaugh. George was a carpenter by trade and I loved his strong hands. He had a strong work ethic and was a hard worker. He worked for Novinger’s Inc. until he retired in 2010. He enjoyed his retirement. He loved to hunt deer years before we married and continuing to do so after. We enjoyed the fish he caught and fillet off the bones for us to eat. As the years went by, he started making deer bologna, cure and smoked meat, sausage and many more things for family and friends. I think by helping his dad while growing up has given Wayne the love for what he and his family did together which was start a thriving butcher shop in Wisconsin. George loved to tell jokes and he loved visiting his friend, Glenn, who now lives in Raystown and were friends since school days. He loved to take his friend, Abner, places and on Saturdays to breakfast at Rachel’s Country Store. After George was bedfast, Abner brought him his favorite biscuits and sausage gravy from Rachel’s. He ate every bite, even scraping every bit clean with his fork. George loved to play cards at Wendy and Scott’s house (his daughter and son-in-law) with them and his brothers, Gerald, “Jerry” and Garnet and his wife, Doris. His granddaughter, Daysha, while still little, loved to watch “Pappy” mix dry cure for his meat and liked the smell too. She has good memories of “Pappy”. His youngest granddaughter, Piper, loved her “Pappy” too and loved staying with us. George loved to drive to see his son, Wayne and his wife, Stacey and their children, Vance and Samantha who all live in Cadott, WI. He also would bring big coolers full of meat, ordered by friends and family, from their butcher shop in Wisconsin. And he wouldn’t forget the Wisconsin cheese and cheese curds either. George battled different illnesses, really slowing down. Then early fall, he started with COVID and it steadily got worse. He was under Heartland Hospice care since beginning of February. They gave wonderful care and all supplies needed to help make it easier for us both, as well as, loving support and encouragement. Thank you and God bless you all. Especially to name a few – nurse Grace and nurse aides, Deanna and Stephany and the others aides were great too. It allowed George to stay at home where he wanted to be. Some years ago, we both decided that we would be cremated. There will be no services and he will be brought back home until my time comes and our family will bury both of us at the same time. A final note from his wife of 62 years, thank you for letting me share my thoughts with you about the love of my life. All these years together, the good, the bad and the ugly, as it is in life, it has been a labor of love on my part to take care of him and I would do it again if he needed me to. To those who knew George and were a friend and who want to pay a tribute to him and honor him, what better way than to have your life right with God, our Creator, as George has done and you will all see each other again one day and continue your friendships. Thank you for being a friend to my husband and may God bless you and your families. Tell them you love them and be thankful for them. I sure am thankful for mine. I am also thankful to everyone who reads this in honor of my husband too. Please share with me in reading: John 3:16 ~ “For God so loved the world that He gave His only Begotten Son that whosoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:17 ~ “For God sent not His son into the world to condemn the world, but the world through Him might be saved.” Whosoever means we all have the same chance to accept Jesus, the only way to Heaven. God’s blessing to everyone who has read all I have written to you.
