George L. Strine

George L. Strine, age 79, of Shippensburg, passed away Thursday, March 18, 2021 peacefully at his home. He was born April 1, 1941 in Lewisburg, PA, the son of the late Roy Arthur Strine and Sarah Louise (Walter) Sortino. George graduated in the Class of 1959 from Milton High School. He went on to Bloomsburg University where he completed his Bachelor’s Degree in Education and taught for four years in the Williamsport Area School District in PA. In 1973, he completed his Master’s and Doctorate Degree in Education at Penn State University. He was a Professor in the Teacher Education Department for 32 years at Shippensburg University where he served as Chairman. He also served as the Director of the Rowland Laboratory School for a short time. George was a member and delegate to the conference of the Messiah United Methodist Church in Shippensburg, where he sang in the church choir. He is survived by his loving wife, of 50 years, Anette Marie (Podobinsky) Strine of Shippensburg; two children, Jennifer R. (Brad) Stake of Shippensburg, and Matthew G. (Karen) Strine of Carlisle; six grandchildren, who were the light of his life, Joshua, Aubrey, and Addison Stake; and Julia, Jillian, and Joven Strine; five half-sisters, Gloria Hoedle, Joanna Haught, Kay Beaver, Linda Leiby, and Deb Miller. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandmother who was a very special person in his life, Helen Mary Strine, who raised him from the age of two and his brother, Carl Strine. Professional services are entrusted to Dugan Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., Shippensburg. Private Memorial Services will be held at the discretion of the family. Interment will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens & Mausoleum, Chambersburg. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in George’s memory to Messiah United Methodist Church, 30 S. Penn Street, Shippensburg, PA 17257 or SpiriTrust Lutheran Homecare & Hospice, 2700 Luther Drive, Chambersburg, PA 17202.
