George W. L. Kimmel (Poppop), Jr., age 79 of Biglerville, died Saturday March 19, 2011 at his home surrounded by his family. George was born May 29, 1931 in Baltimore, MD, a son of the late George W. L. and Alma V. (Rohrback) Kimmel, Sr. George was a retired truck driver from Consolidated Freightways in Baltimore. He was a member of Orchard Springs Fellowship in Aspers and Ira E. Lady American Legion Post 262 in Biglerville. George served in the US Army for three years from 1947 until 1950. He is survived by his wife, Margaret (Shaffer) Kimmel to whom he was married for 60 years. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son William and wife Evelyn Kimmel of Aspers; three daughters: Margie and husband Donald Thayer of Hanover, Cathy and husband Mark Shull of Aspers and Bonnie and husband Barry Bretzman of Aspers; two sisters, Betty Newlin of Hagerstown, MD and Cheryl Wilson of Sykesville, MD; 16 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Robert Leroy Kimmel, his son, Robert Charles Kimmel, a grandson, Thomas Kimmel, his brother Charles Kimmel and three sisters: Leatha Gosnell, Stella Forsythe, and Hilda Mickley. Professional services have been entrusted to Dugan Funeral Home, Inc. Funeral services will be held at Dugan Funeral Home, 111 South Main Street, Bendersville, Thursday March 24, at 8:00 PM with Reverend Tony DeRosa officiating. A viewing will be held on Thursday from 6:00 PM until time of services. Interment will be at the discretion of the family. In lieu of flowers, George requested memorial contributions be made to Orchard Springs Fellowship, 2140 Carlisle Road, Aspers, PA 17304.
