Gerard J. (Jerry) Killen, age 74 of Aspers, died Wednesday, April 24, 2013 at York Hospital. He was born Sunday, May 8, 1938 in Philadelphia, the son of the late Leo C. and Margaret P. (Hagney) Killen. Jerry was formerly employed by the US Postal Service in Philadelphia for 15 years. He retired from Schaad Detective Agency, where he was a security guard for Knouse Foods, Peach Glen. He attended Jireh Independent Baptist Church in Biglerville and was a member of the Ira E. Lady American Legion Post 262 in Biglerville. Jerry was an avid hunter and fisherman. Most of all, his grandchildren were the light of his life. He served as an airplane mechanic in the US Marine Corp from 1956 until1962. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Joan H. (Donnelly) Killen. He is also survived by two daughters: Kimberly A. and husband David Mentzer II and Linda J. and husband Joseph Shreve, Jr., all of Gardners; a son, Richard V. and wife Kim Killen of Aspers; six grandchildren: Danielle Mentzer, Emily Mentzer, Kelsey Shreve, Zachary Shreve, Elizabeth Shreve and Matthew Killen; two step-grandchildren: Meghan McKinney and Colton McKinney, and one great-granddaughter, Kaylee Killen. Professional services are being handled by Dugan Funeral Home, Inc., 111 South Main St., Bendersville. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am Monday, April 29 at Jireh Independent Baptist Church, 3086 Biglerville Road, Biglerville with Pastor Gregg Keckler officiating. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery, Arendtsville. A viewing will be held at his church on Sunday, April 28 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm and also on Monday from 10:00 am until time of services. Memorial contributions may be made to Jireh Independent Baptist Church, 3086 Biglerville Road, Biglerville, PA 17307.
