Glenn Abram Wenger, Jr.

November 16, 1942 — April 15, 2024

Glenn Abram Wenger, Jr., age 81, was born on November 16, 1942 in Chambersburg, PA. He was the son of the late Glenn Abram Wenger, Sr. and Christine Horn. Glenn passed away on April 15, 2024.

What can I say about a man after spending almost sixty years of our lives together? He was my friend, companion, love of my life. He was a fun-loving person, a teller of jokes and stories. He liked to socialize with friends and family. He worked hard all his life from his teenage years on, providing well for his family, a truck driver who took pride in his over 30 years with Sunoco. He was born in Chambersburg. Friends and family knew him by the nickname ‘Zip’, which he got by being a speedy little newspaper delivery kid, his first job. Zip had no scholarly aspirations. He left high school before graduating to get a job at Nitterhouse Concrete. He also worked part time at a local gas station which is where we met.

We married on October 8, 1966. A year later we bought our old brick farmhouse on three acres of land in Newburg, Pa. As a young couple starting out, we hoped to live simply and sustainably on our own land. He planted a large garden and took care of our flock of chickens, all while keeping up with his job as a fuel delivery driver. Our son Brad was born in 1970. These were good days in our lives.

One of Zip’s favorite ways of relaxing was going fishing. Over the years his main interest became fly fishing and fly tying. In his spare time he could be found along the Big Spring near Newville, enjoying the company of his fishing buddies. He was a member of the Big Spring Watershed Association. He was one of the volunteer instructors for their annual fly tying classes.

After retiring from Sunoco he decided to pursue a life-long desire to learn to play the guitar. We spent many evenings enjoying bluegrass music classes at Hagerstown Junior College.

The last few years of his life were spent quietly at home due to Covid and his worsening COPD. He liked to go out for fast food lunches and watch his favorite TV programs with his cat, Millie on his lap. We love you and miss you terribly. There is an empty place in our lives without you. Rest in peace. Know that you will always live in our hearts.

His parents Glenn Sr. and Christine Horn Wenger preceded him in death, as did his brother Leroy and our son Bradley. Glenn is survived by his wife Patricia Wrights Wenger, and his daughter-in-law Kami Ventura. He is also survived by his sister Linda Kaiser and brother Garry Wenger, both in Chambersburg, and his brother Jeff in Fayetteville.

Professional Services are entrusted to Dugan Funeral Home and Crematory 51 Asper Drive Shippensburg, PA. The family will hold a Celebration of Life Service in Honor of Glenn at a later date. To leave a condolence for the family, please visit www.duganfh.com.
