Grace K. Hall

Grace K. Hall, age 85, of Chambersburg, formerly of Biglerville, passed away Saturday, November 25, 2017 at Menno Haven in Chambersburg. She was born May 28, 1932 in Upper Salford, Montgomery County, PA, to the late Eugene K. and Martha L. (Landes) Kerr. Grace graduated from Lancaster Mennonite School in Lancaster, PA. She raised three sons with her first husband, William R. Sauder, in Newport News and Richmond, VA, working primarily as a homemaker until his death in 1974. She then excelled in business, working in retail sales and office management. For seven years prior to their retirement, she and her second husband, Vern H. Hall, owned and operated a successful shoe store in Richmond. Vern died in 2006. Grace was a skilled seamstress and had a special flair for knitting and crocheting, at one time forming a business on eBay to market her handiwork. She was an active member of First Mennonite Church in Richmond and St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Biglerville. In recent years, she had resided at Menno Haven, where she made many friends and found a nurturing community. She is survived by a large and loving family, including her three sons, Ron (and Debbie) Sauder of Salisbury, MD, Robert L. Sauder Conrad of Indianapolis, IN, and James R. Sauder of Quito, Ecuador. She was deeply devoted to them; to her grandchildren, Katherine (and Will) Laughlin of Camp Hill, PA, and Andrew (and Christine) Sauder of Chadds Ford, PA; and to her seven great-grandchildren, Rebecca, Jonathan, and Alison Grace Laughlin; and Jacob, Abigail, Benjamin, and David Sauder. She was preceded in death by her brothers Lloyd Kerr and Wilmer (and Rachel) Kerr and her brother-in-law Stanley Alderfer. She is survived by her sister Mae Kerr Alderfer, of Sellersville, PA; her brother Jim (and Kay) Kerr of Duncannon, PA; sisters-in-law Blanche Kerr and Esther Kerr; and many nieces and nephews. She also remained very close to the Sauder family, including surviving in-laws Joseph and Geneva Sauder of Chambersburg, Myrtle (and formerly Don) Sauder of Laurel, DE, and Donald and Anne Sauder Siegrist of Jasper, NY, along with many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 30, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, 25 Franklin Street, Biglerville, with Reverend Brenda Doyle officiating. Interment will be in Biglerville Cemetery. A viewing will be held at the church one hour prior to services.
