Harry Charles Griest

Harry Charles Griest, age 79 of Biglerville, passed away August 8, 2024 at home with his loving family by his side. He was born November 15, 1944 in Harrisburg, son of the late Stewart A. and Hattie Mae (Hippensteel) Griest.

Harry was a plant superintendent for Knouse Foods, Gardners, member of Mount Olivet United Brethren in Christ Church, Guernsey, where he served as an usher and was a Board Trustee, a life member of the Moose and member of the Class of ’62, Biglerville High School. He played cards with the Sensational Set and loved his family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom he enjoyed watching their sports and activities.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Jean L. (Moomaw) Griest; sons, Michael W. Griest and wife, Tonya of Biglerville and Jeff Griest and wife, Christina of Hanover; grandchildren, Brady Griest and wife, Lindsey, Koby Griest and wife, Carlee, Conner Griest and wife, Courtney, Camden, Gianna and Jaxon Griest and great-grandchildren, Lucas, Leo, Grayson and Delilah Griest. He is also survived by his sister, Elaine Moritz and brothers, Ron Althoff and wife, Deb and Clair Althoff and wife, Janet and niece and nephews. Harry was preceded in death by his mother, who died giving birth to him, father, who was killed by a train when he was 3, his aunt, Pauline (Griest) Althoff and uncle, James Althoff, who brought him home from the hospital and raised him, his sister, Sarah Jane (Griest) Davidson and his brother, Stewart A Griest, Jr.

Professional services have been entrusted to Dugan Funeral Home, Inc., 111 S. Main Street, Bendersville, PA 17306. A private memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family.
