Helen D. Rex, age 77 of Biglerville, passed away Friday, May 19, 2017 at SpiriTrust Home in Gettysburg. She was born Monday, November 13, 1939 in Gettysburg, the daughter of the late Guy and Sylvia (Howe) Rex. Helen graduated from Biglerville High School in 1957. Two weeks after graduation, she was employed by the Upper Adams School District as secretary to the business manager until 1977, when she was appointed by the school board to the position of business manager where she served until retirement in 1994. She was a member of St. James Lutheran Church in Wenksville where she sang in the choir and was a WELCA member-past president, served on church council and was past treasurer of the church. She was a 4-H member since she was eight years old in the Aspers 4-H Club, 4-H volunteer leader in Upper Adams 4-H Club for 57 years. She was awarded the PA state Achievement Award. She serves as treasurer of AFULA 4-H board of directors and attended many leadership conferences. She also chaperoned many state to state exchanges. She volunteered with the Bendersville Community Fire Company at the annual carnival. After her retirement, she was the treasurer of ACPASR, treasurer of Biglerville Historical and Preservation Society, treasurer of AARP Trip committee. She enjoyed gardening and cross stitch as well as travelling especially with AFULA, with whom she travelled to Great Smokey Mountains, Hawaii and Alaska. She also volunteered with Upper Adams Meals on Wheels. She was an Upper Adams Lions Club member for 22 years, where she served as president and earned the Melvin Jones Award, Lion of the Year, and was Chairman of the Student of the month Committee. Helen was an auditor for Menallen Twp. and treasurer of the Adams County Township officials for many years. She is survived by her sister, Carol J. Rex of Biglerville, nephews, Ricky O. Rex and companion Pam and Terry J. Rex and companion Tina both of Biglerville, five nieces/nephews, three great-nieces and two great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother Glenn O. Rex. Professional services are entrusted to Dugan Funeral Home, Inc., 111 South Main Street, Bendersville. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, June 10, 2017 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 126 Church Street, Bendersville with Reverend B. Wesley Smith III officiating. A visitation will be held at the church from 9:30 AM until time of services. Memorial contributions may be made to St. James Lutheran Church, Wenksville, c/o Carol Rex, Treasurer, 179 Dug Hill Road, Biglerville, PA 17307.
