Helen Marie Godfrey

Helen Marie Godfrey, age 89, of Newburg, passed away on Wednesday, January 4, 2023 at Green Ridge Village of Newville. She was born September 17, 1933 in Washington, DC, the daughter of the late William H. and Aileen E. (Davis) Irwin.

Helen graduated from La Plata Catholic Church School in La Plata, MD. She worked as a Supervisor for Southern Corp. stores. She was a former member of Newville Assembly of God and more recently attended Mowersville Brethren in Christ Church. She was a volunteer for the Newburg Church of God clothing bank. In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening, fishing, crafting, and most of all, being a mom to her loving children.

Helen is survived by her loving husband of 70 years, James L. Godfrey; four daughters, Helen M. Williams (Denny) of Fayetteville, Deborah M. Godfrey of Shippensburg, Sabrina L. Whitsel of Harrisburg and Cristen H. Wittig (Timothy) of Fulks Run, VA; two sons: James D. Godfrey of Bedford and Steven L. Godfrey of State College, PA, adopted son, Hayden Godfrey; daughter-in-law, Nancy Godfrey of Shippensburg; 14 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Morgan D. Godfrey, Sr., who passed in March 5, 2021, two sisters, Louise Hardy and Dorothy A. Mulcahay and three brothers, William Irwin, Robert Irwin and Donald Irwin.

Professional services are entrusted to Dugan Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., Shippensburg.

Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 PM on Wednesday, January 11, 2023 at Dugan Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 51 Asper Drive Shippensburg, PA 17257, with Pastor David Halteman officiating. Interment will be in Air Hill Cemetery in Chambersburg, PA. A Public Viewing will take place from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the funeral home. A Procession to Air Hill Cemetery will follow services.
