Hellen M. Starner, age 84 of Gardners, went to be with her Lord Thursday, August 17, 2017 at SpiriTrust Home in Gettysburg. She was born Sunday, November 13, 1932 in Gardners, the daughter of the late Paul M. and Nora M. (Kuntz) Meals. Hellen graduated from Boiling Springs High School in 1951. She was formerly employed by Lincoln Intermediate Unit #12 for 38 years as a bus driver. In addition to driving bus, she worked with her husband on their fruit farm. She was a member of Faith Chapel Independent Bible Church in Carlisle, where she served as treasurer of the Women's Fellowship. She also was a teacher for the Child Evangelism of Adams County and Bible Club movement in Cumberland County. She was a member of PA State Education Association, IU #12 Lincoln ESPA Union Local, member of American Diabetes Association and Auxiliary of American Legion Ira E. Lady Post 262 in Biglerville. She loved to read her Bible, doing puzzles and word searches. Attending her grandchildren's and great-grandchildren's sporting events was a major part of her life. Her husband, Laverne E. Starner passed away in 2008. She is survived by two daughters, Beryl E. and husband Mark Stoddard and Nancy S. and husband Terry Miller both of Gardners, seven grandchildren, Glenn Carey, lll, Dennis Smith, Jr., Tina Runk, Theresa Marrazzo, Tammy Martin, Tonya Smith, Bradley Miller, eleven great-grandchildren, one sister, Virginia M. Ecker of Gardners, a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by sister Jean M. King and brothers Harry R. Meals, Sr. and John Wolf. Professional services are entrusted to Dugan Funeral Home, Inc., 111 South Main Street, Bendersville. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Monday, August 21 at Faith Chapel Independent Bible Church, 1453 Holly Pike, Carlisle with Reverend Michael Mayer officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Tabor Cemetery. A viewing will be held on Sunday from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at the funeral home and at the church on Monday from 9:30 AM until time of services.
