Horace H. Waybright, age 86 of Gettysburg, died Friday, March 15, 2013 at the University of Maryland Trauma Center due to complications from a fall at his home. He was surrounded by his loving family. He was born September 22, 1926 in Gettysburg, the son of the late Clarence J. and Dorothy E. (Hess) Waybright. Horace graduated from Gettysburg High School in 1944. He was the first Battlefield FFA member to receive the American Farmer Award in 1946. Representing the seventh generation on that farm, Horace went into partnership with his father, Clarence and brother, Richard.Luther Smith later entered the business to form Mason Dixon Farms. The Waybrights received the Master Farmer Award in 1961. His farming affiliations included former president and board member of the Adams County Farm Bureau and PA Farm Bureau, board member of the York Farm Credit Bureau, and National Dairy Legislative and Research Board. Mr. Waybright's local community involvement included serving on the Gettysburg School Board in the early 1960's, the Freedom Township Planning Board for over 20 years and the Adams County Republican Committee. He was a member of St. James Lutheran Church in Gettysburg and a former council member. He was also a member of the Good Samaritan Lodge FAM Lodge 336 in Gettysburg, Good Samaritan Royal Arch Chapter 266, and Gettysburg Commandery No. 79 Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite of Harrisburg. Horace has been married to Evelyn R. (Hikes) Waybright for 63 years. He is survived by his son, Jeffrey and his wife Leslie of Gettysburg? and three daughters, Lucinda and husband Alan Zepp of New Oxford, Melinda and husband Thomas Johnston of Gettysburg, Nadine and husband Robert Nace of East Berlin. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. He is survived by his sisters, Geraldine Settle of Annapolis, MD and Dorothy Green of Millersville, PA and brother, Richard Waybright of Gettysburg. He was preceded in death by his sister, Lois Smith. Professional services are being handled by Dugan Funeral Home, Inc., 111 South Main Street, Bendersville. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, March 22 at St. James Lutheran Church, 109 York Street, Gettysburg with Pastor Jeanette Leisk officiating. A visitation will be held at the church on Friday from 9:00 AM until time of services. Masonic services will held on Friday at 9:30 AM.
