Howard “Gene” Eugene Hepinstall, Jr., age 77, of Greencastle, passed away Monday, July 26, 2021 at Chambersburg Hospital. He was born June 1, 1944 in Fort Benning, Georgia, the son of the late Howard Eugene, Sr. and Louise Virginia (Murrell) Hepinstall. Gene graduated in the Class of 1962 from Catonsville High School, Baltimore, MD. When he was 27, he was involved in a deadly shooting during a robbery. Against all odds, and despite what doctors said, he survived the shooting and went on to live the best years of his life. In 1981, he met the love of his life, Sandra and shortly after in 1982, he had his son, Howard. Gene worked as a car salesman for 10 years. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #40 in Glen Burnie, MD and he was on a shuffle board league for many years. He loved playing pool, traveling, and dining out at restaurants. He is survived by his loving wife, of almost 40 years, Sandra Rosa (Layne) Hepinstall of Greencastle; one son, Howard Eugene (Amanda) Hepinstall, III of MD; two grandchildren, Amelia and Olivia Hepinstall; one sister, Karen (Gerald) Kunde of MD; one step-daughter, Gigi (Fred) Yelton of Greencastle; and two step-grandchildren, Jake and Georgia Yelton. Professional services are entrusted to Dugan Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., Shippensburg. Memorial Services will be held Saturday, August 21 at 1:00 PM at Chesapeake Christian Center, 206 Weston Woods Drive, Pasadena, MD 21122, with Pastor Thom Dawson officiating.
